The four phases of making a video that drives results

Phase 1) Discovery

The first step is getting to know your business and what goals and expectations you have for the video project.

What is the overarching goal the video? For example, it could be:

  • Brand awareness
  • Increased sales
  • Recruiting
  • Investment opportunities
  • Or, any other action you wish your viewer to take.
Who are we making this video for? Knowing the audience helps us figure out the best way to get the message across.
To make sure we’re on the same page with your project, it would be great if you could share any ideas or inspiration you have for it.

Phase 2) Strategy

We’ll take what we learned in stage one and develop an actionable plan for your brand.

With your goals in mind, we’ll determine the key messages to incorporate.

Basically, we want to figure out what’ll grab the viewer’s attention, show them the problem they’re experiencing and present a solution they can’t resist.

We’ll select a look and feel for the video that we’re sure your viewers will like. It’s important to keep it consistent with your brand and make it enjoyable to watchm.

We can achieve many different aesthetics using lighting, lenses, colours, motion, and sounds.

We know what we’re going to say and how it should look. Now how about where to reach the audience?

We’ll provide recommendations for what social channels and marketing methods are best for targeting your audience.

Knowing what social media platforms you’ll be sharing on will determine the format of the video. A video that works on Tiktok might not work so well on YouTube.

However, we often bundle a series of cutdowns of the main film that will work across all major social platforms.

An example would be:

  • Produce the main film (90-120 seconds)
  • Cutdown a 30-second version
  • Cutdown a 15-second version

We’ll give these shorter versions in vertical and 16×9 formats to be shared as shorts, stories and reels.

Phase 3) Creative Execution

Next, we put our creative team to work and build your video from the ground up.

Now it’s time we focus on the story and creative direction for the video. That means everything leading up to the actual filming, such as:

  • Location scouting
  • Hiring crew
  • Gear selection
  • Scripting
  • Interview question development
  • Shotlist creation
This is the fun part! This is where we put our plan of action into play. Generally, the project will call for a day of interview filming and a day or two of B-Roll capture.

Depending on the scale, requirements, and budget of the project, filming may take place over several days and involve several crew members.

Post-production is the process that happens after all of the filming is completed. We take the raw video and audio files and compile them into a comprehensive video.

At this stage, we also add all of the finishing touches that will make the content stand out such as sound design, colour grading, music selection, and audio mastering.

We will also give you opportunities to review and request revisions if need be.

Phase 4) Deliver and Distribute

Now, it’s time to put the video to work for brand!

We’ll send you a secure download link with your files – polished and ready to be put into action!

We do keep backups of all of our projects, but we recommend you store the files in a safe place.

Through the channels we outlined in the strategy phase, you can start strategically sharing the videos online.
